If you've stayed at an Ace Hotel before, you know what to expect — you're typically in for a cool, historic building in an upcoming neighborhood, a work-from-the-lobby situation, community and art, and a Stumptown or other good coffee attached. Kyoto is no exception, but with the added layer of Japanese hospitality, it's really a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are spacious and really comfy, especially the bathrooms (my standard king had a soaking tub and shower) and the location is excellent. Just downstairs within the same complex are cool shops, cafes, and places to eat. The subway station is around the corner, and there is so much good stuff within walking distance to explore. Other popular spots like Nishiki Market and Kawaramachi-dori are also a short stroll away. I only had a chance to eat at Mr Maurice's and it was delicious. A bit pricey, but after a long day of travel, it hit the spot when all I wanted to do was eat and then pass out. A dark, serene environment and the food was great. P.S. There's an ATM that accepts international cards in the lobby near the back elevators that charged a very modest withdrawal fee (110 yen).

After our Kyoto visit, we'll be staying at Ace Hotels in the future, for sure. Located in a lovely part of town, this hotel was stuffed with creative, thoughtful touches that made it hard to want to leave. There are the standard provided items you'll find in Japan (toiletries, yukata), plus other nice touches (like a bicycle rental option) but I most enjoyed the records on offer—I frequently swapped mine out down at the front desk and eventually bought a few I listened to off of Ebay. The on-side restaurant/coffee offerings are great, and they frequently have art or music events happening, which keeps things lively. There's much to do in the local area, including the trendy shopping center that Ace is a part of; when you want to explore further, just jump on the metro from the station that's connected to the shopping center!

We arrived at 1am due to flight cancellations and missing our bullet train. The staff looked after us and made sure the arrival was smooth. They stored our big ski luggage in their storage room for our entire stay. Our family of four stayed in a Standard twin room. The rooms are designed cleverly and it is enough room for us comfortable for the 4 nights. We managed to use the front door area to keep our luggage and the bathroom and seperate toilet are spacious. Beds were really comfy. Rooms were quiet. Location was excellent with a subway below but also walking distance to the main shopping area. The back streets are great to walk with cute little boutique shops and cafe's you will miss if you stick to the subway.

The property is incredibly beautiful and modern and in a fantastic location. The lobby is a communal space that is a pleasure to hang out in over a morning coffee from the in house coffee shop. The staff were really friendly and helpful. I was able to organise a late check out due to my transfer being later in the day. The room was spacious and super cute with a guitar and record player. There were lots of thoughtful touches such as a bench seat by the door with a shoe horn. The bed and pillows were ridiculously comfortable - I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud. Great minibar selection also.

The design of the hotel is absolutely stunning-- loved the styling of the rooms, the foyer, all of it. The amount of amenities in the hotel itself was great; there are multiple restaurants in the building, shops, and a barista. It was so nice to have so many options available (particularly after a long day exploring Kyoto) to just pop down and grab a bite to eat in one of the restaurants.
